Experience the Nomad Cruise Antarctica Expedition

AN 11 DAY JOURNEY

From South America to Antarctica - and back :)

Your journey sets sail where the world seemingly comes to an end – in Ushuaia, Argentina, acclaimed as the southernmost city on Earth. Over the next two days navigating the Drake Passage, you'll share in the same awe-inspiring experiences that once captivated the legendary polar explorers who mapped these territories, and perhaps even a fin whale spraying sea mist into the air. As we venture deeper into the Antarctic expanse, our potential stops include Danco Island, Neko Harbour, Paradise Bay, and Port Lockroy. Our voyage then continues, taking us to the volcanic landscapes of the South Shetlands and Deception Island before embarking on the return journey to South America via the Drake Passage.

The program may vary depending on ice, weather, and wildlife conditions. Flexibility is paramount for expedition cruises.

Your questions answered

Can I come alone?

Sure you can! We make it super easy for you to connect with the other participants, so we promise you won’t be alone for too long. Most of the participants who join us for the first time come alone and leave with many new friends.

Can I share my cabin with other participants?

We do offer shared cabins with another Nomad Cruise participant. By providing shared cabins, we can get more people on board, you can save some bucks on your ticket, plus you’ll have a friend from the very first day. You can either make a suggestion of who you would like to share your cabin with or we will choose another lovely participant of the same sex for you.

Can I bring my kids?

Yes it’s possible to bring your kids but only recommended if they are at least 8 years old. Children between 8-15 get a discount if they join in a shared cabin with two other pax. Please email us for additonal info at info@nomadcruise.com.

What's included in the ticket?

When should I arrive to Ushuaia?

We recommend arriving 2 days in advance (3rd January) so you can already meet and connect with the other participants. If that’s too early for you, please plan to be there the latest on the 4th January to make sure you have some buffer in case anything goes south with your itinerary. We will also share some hotel recommendations as we get closer to the trip.

Do you have a refund policy?

If for some reason you can’t make it on the cruise, you can cancel your ticket by simply sending an email to info@nomadcruise.com.

Tickets are not for resale.

Which cruise line and ship are we going with?

MS Ortelius will be our home away from home for these 10 days, operated by Oceanwide Expeditions.

Is there wifi on board?

There are facilities on board to send emails and make calls via satellite connection, All costs for internet, email, or the use of the onboard cellular network (if available) are at your own expense. We faced a different situation on each of our previous trips, so it’s hard to make a general statement about the speed, so it’s better to be prepared for a very slow connection and take a holiday for the duration of the trip.

What is the currency on board?

The currency used aboard the ship is the Euro, but you can also pay with USD.

What is the weather like in the Antarctic Peninsula?

During January, which is summertime, you can expect an average temperature of 1 to 2 degrees Celsius (33.8 to 35.6 degrees Fahrenheit), with some rain on occasion.

What kind of clothing should I take for the expedition cruise?

For Zodiac cruises to shore you’ll need a waterproof jacket and pants (minimum 15,000mm rating). Apart from that, our advice is to take warm, windproof, waterproof clothes that you can easily add or remove in layers. It’s best to take clothing made of wool, silk, and new synthetic fibers, all of which retain heat better than other materials.

We will provide you with an expedition manual, which will include a detailed packing list to make sure you are prepared with everything you’ll need.

What types of plants and animals can I see in Antarctica?

The vegetation at Antarctica consists of around 350 species of mostly lichens, mosses, and algae. Various sea birds, seals, and penguins are often seen in Antarctica such as the Emperor Penguin, Adelie Penguin, Orcas, Humpback whales, Weddell Seals and Leopard seals.

What happens after arrival?

In general we can encourage you to stick around in the area for a few weeks after the expedition. This gives you an excellent opportunity to build deeper connections and brainstorm potential business collaborations with those you met on board. You won’t want to miss the reunions we will organize after the cruise – they are always a ton of fun and a great way to explore yet another beautiful destination – or two! 😉
