Who can apply for the Nomad Cruise?
We are looking for creative, productive and passionate people at different stages of their digital nomadism/remote working. Nomad Cruise is for beginners as well as for pros, because we believe that we all have different talents and we can all learn from each other.
If you haven’t applied yet and want to join us in the future, please do so soon. Keep in mind that we plan cruises a long time ahead and chances to get on board AND get better deals are higher if you apply now.
What are we looking for in Applications?
Nomad Cruise is about sharing and connecting. For us it’s important to create an environment of learning and developing (be it your business, your skill set or your personality). So the broader the spectrum of skills and talents on board is, the more everyone will benefit.
The application process allows us to put together a heterogenous group with respect to age, gender, nationality, experience, skills and interests, yet homogenous with respect to open-mindedness and choice of the nomadic/remote working lifestyle.
What happens after my application?
Once you applied and we considered you good match for our project, you will be registered in our system. We will get in touch with you once there are updates on upcoming cruises, available cabin space and so on and so forth.
I’ve received an invite – can I bring my friends/family along?
After you received an invite you are welcome to either bring your friend or partner along and share your cabin with them. You can choose a cabin with either a large double bed or two separate beds.
In case you bring your friend (not partner) we kindly ask you to only bring people who are seriously interested in what we do or already consider themselves a digital nomad.
For those who want to bring their entire family: you can stay in a cabin with up to 4 people. Simply send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with your preferred cabin type, number of people, their ages and number of kids that will join you and we’ll get back to you with a quote for the trip.
Remember that the minimum age to join the cruise is six months and women who are pregnant beyond week 22 cannot join the cruise.
Are pets allowed on the ship?
Pets are generally not allowed on the cruise unless the serve a therapeutic purpose. If that is the case with your pet, please contact us beforehand.
What happens after I’ve accepted my invite?
Once we received your booking request we will send you the booking form to pay a deposit and confirm your booking. The full ticket only needs to be paid 60 days prior to departure. Shortly before the cruise we also start a Facebook group, so you can get to know the other participants as well and keep you constantly updated with latest updates about your trip.
Which other trips are you planning in the future and where can I apply?
Yes, we are constantly working on new trips. Check out our next trips to see which trips are currently in the pipeline. If you would like to receive an invite to any of them simply apply and we’ll keep you updated!
Can I share my cabin with other participants?
We do finally offer shared cabins with another nomad cruise participant. Often times cabins are limited by cruises but each cabin can have a setup with two separate beds. By offering shared cabins we can get more people on board and you can save costs for your ticket at the same time. You can either make a suggestion of who you would like to share your cabin with or we will choose another great participant of the same sex for you.
Are there any additional charges?
Yes, apart from the ticket you will have to pay a service fee between € 100 and € 150 for staff on board – depending on the length of your trip. Other than that, there will not be any surprises or hidden fees.
Keep in mind however that additional charges apply for selected on-board services such as Wi-Fi, SPA packages, casino, laundry and the à la carte restaurant. However, most services on board are free of charge.
How much does WiFi cost?
Satellite Internet doesn’t come cheap, which is why we recommend a digital detox focused on making connections with those on board. All those who do, usually feel relaxed for the first time in a very long time and are really able to get stuff done, as they aren’t distracted by incessant emails or Facebook notifications.
For those who cannot live without it, you’re looking at about €59 for 250 minutes. There is also an unlimited WiFi plan available and you can get online for around $ 20 per day. To get the unlimited pack you will have to pay the $20 per day for each day of the cruise from the first day you buy it.
What is the quality of WiFi on board?
The internet is an important feature of comfortable and modern life. It is the driving force of digital nomadism and as much as we wished we could promise you a super solid high speed connection on board, we just can’t. Sorry.
We understand that your business/lifestyle is dependent on it. While the cruise ship company is constantly working on their internet infrastructure, and the fact that there is satellite connection in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean in theory is totally mind blowing already, we are extremely hesitant to recommend relying on it. We just can’t.
There may be days with really good connection, there may be days with no WiFi at all.
So our recommendation is: try to be as independent from regular internet access as possible. Try to think in terms of a ‘digital detox’ (which allows unlimited chocolate cake and ice-cream in contrast to most other detoxes) and you can only be positively surprised.
Are there going to be other people on board besides our group?
Yes. Transatlantic cruises usually attract very open-minded individuals who generally can connect with the digital nomads quite easily.
How is the food on board?
The food is included in your ticket. You can expect a wide variety of food during meal times with many options for vegans and vegetarians.
- Buffet in morning (fruit, cereal, eggs, variation of bread, pancakes, sausages and more)
- Buffet for lunch (salad bar, variety of fish, meat, vegetables and desserts)
- Dinner a la carte or buffet style
What’s included in the drink packages?
All basic drinks on the cruise are included. However, if you prefer more high end brands, you can let us know beforehand and we can arrange to book a premium package at € 10 a day, which includes premium brands like Red Bull, Bombay, Johnny Walker for you.
Nomad Cruise Program
What kind of program can I expect on board?
It’s going to be great. We are proud of our very diverse and well-rounded program. This year, you can expect talks from impressive experts in their field about topics that address all (or at least most) of us. The topics vary from business-development to self-development, from finance to health, from web-development to travelling.
We put together a program structure that allows for enough free time to bond, organise individual meet-ups or relaxation by the pool. With two different talks in the morning, you will have your perfect dose of input as you start into the day. After lunch, there will be various workshops, which will ask for your active participation and your will to create. In the afternoon hours, there will be meet-ups and off-schedule events like spontaneous work-out sessions or afternoon drinks, before we meet for dinner to connect even more and enjoy the perks of being on a cruise ship. Keep in mind that the entire program is optional and you can decide which events you’d like to attend, some workshops will be limited in group size though.
To get a better idea on what topics to expect check out the program from our recent cruise to Portugal to get a better idea about the diversity of the talks and workshops we will have on board.
If you would like to contribute please fill our our workshop form. We are looking forward to hear from you!
General Travel Advice
When should I arrive before the cruise?
What we suggest is that you don’t arrive just a day before (make it at least two, will you?) and fly out the day after. There will be many opportunities to meet up with other participants of the cruise before. If you have the time, we would always recommend to arrive around one week prior to departure.
What happens after the cruise?
There is a lot going on in the weeks after our arrival. In fact many of our participants team up with their new friends and continue to travel together. So our recommendation is to spend at least another week in our final destination.
We also recommend you to avoid making unnecessary travel plans far in advance, as it it’s very likely that they might change spontaneously along with all the amazing new people you will meet on board.
Depending on our final destination we might organize some ongoing trips or accommodation at our final destination.
Where can I book my flights?
You will have to make your own flight arrangements to our start and final destinations. To start your research we can highly recommend the ITA Matrix or Google Flights to start your research.
